Questions and Answers on all Aspects of Implants

You will find FAQs (frequently asked questions) on this page concerning implants. We are happy to answer your individual questions with regard to the fixing of your implants in Mönchengladbach or to Dr. Quantius, your specialist for dental implants, via our contact form or during one of our information events.

How long do dental implants last?

After the healing process, the dental implants can normally stay a whole life long in your jaw.

How painful is the implantation and the time afterwards?

During and also after the operation you will feel no pain owing to our gentle treatment methods. If, however, you should feel pain after the operation, you can treat this with the usual painkillers. After a week any discomfort will have disappeared.

How much time does the treatment with dental implants take up?

Thanks to our innovative treatment methods, the actual operation is over after one day. After a very short time your implant-supported teeth are ready for full use.

Can implants be inserted without cutting the gum?

This is possible under certain circumstances. Through the use of 3D implant planning, we can adapt the operation to your individual requirements and carry out the work without a scalpel where appropriate.

Is the implantation painful?

The implantation is not painful as it is always carried out under local anaesthetic. Afterwards you may feel a little localized pain, which will go away if you take a painkiller.

Smoking and Implants: Can implants be inserted although I am a smoker?

Implants can be inserted if the patient is a smoker. However, smokers run a higher risk of infection around the implant, so this means that good oral hygiene and regular check-ups in our Prophylaxis Centre are more important for smokers.

Under which circumstances can implants be lost?

In uncommon cases the inserted implant does not grow into the bone. The implant can be reinserted after a certain period of time. An implant can also be lost if it exposed to one-sided pressure. An infection may occur around the implant (Periimplantitis) and must be recognized quickly and treated accordingly. This can prevent the loss of an implant.

Can an infection of the implant occur?

The gum can become inflamed around an implant in the same way as a tooth. This inflammation is called Periimplantitis. (Im deutschen Text gibt es hier einen Schreibfehler) Bacteria are the cause of this. A swelling of the gum and bleeding can be seen in this case. This can be quickly recognized and treated in our Prophylaxis Centre.

How can the occurrence of infections of the implants be avoided?

This can be achieved by regularly carrying out the preventative care of your implants, which is adapted to fit your individual case, and by optimizing your oral hygiene, meaning that you stay infection-free.
